lyrics

We used to talk about how we'd conquer all standing side by side,
fearing nothing life could throw our way,
so long as it was you and I.
Painting pictures of the future,
we seemed so confident and sure
that nothing nature-driven or man-made
could possibly stop our stride.
But how wrong our egos were,
and what a lesson we were forced to learn.
We never loved like that before,
but it won't be the last time,
no it won't be the last time,
that much I am sure.

I never really got the chance to say goodbye,
I never really got the change to say what was on my mind.
And now that you're gone, now that you've found the one,
I fear the very sight of my own reflection.

We used to talk about how we'd conquer all standing side by side,
fearing nothing life could throw our way,
so long as it was you and I.
Painting pictures of the future,
we seemed so confident and sure
that nothing nature-driven or man-made
could possibly stop our stride.
But what savages we were
as we attacked the weaknesses we'd come to learn.
We'd never hurt like that before,
and I hope it's the last time,
well, I hope it's the last time
that I must endure a pain so paralyzing.

I never really got the chance to say goodbye,
I never really got the change to say what was on my mind.
And now that you're gone, now that you've found the one,
I fear the very sight of my own reflection.

I nearly killed myself coming face to face with the reality
that the person you were hoping for won't ever look like me.
I trudged through Hell and back
trying to change the course of my history,
but I'm not going to change who I am.

I never really got the chance to say goodbye,
I never really got the change to say what was on my mind.
And now that you're gone, now that you've found the one,
I fear the very sight of my own reflection.
